Procrastination and Perfeccionism
Procrastination is a well-known thing that occurs every time a decision is postponed or simply not made. With that in mind, why does anyone procrastinate? What can we do to get rid of this habit?
1. Before seeking answers, it is essential to have self-knowledge as it is very common to have procrastination and perfectionism holding hands and walking side-by-side.
You need to know yourself. If you are constantly criticizing and striving to be perfect all the time, realize that there is no such thing for us humans. It is simply impossible. Realize that perfectionism and the very concept of perfection is not real and there’s nothing wrong with not being perfect.
2. The second step in understanding this issue is acceptance. It is essential for this process.
Admit to yourself that you didn’t finish something because you felt insecure or distracted or for any other reason. Stay away from any guilt or judgment, because those are nothing more than “pseudo-beliefs”.
Often people avoid creating something or carrying out their projects saying that they seek excellence in their results but, because they believe it is inaccessible, they don’t even start. True excellence, however, is creating, executing, delivering something by doing the best you can at the moment.
3.Commitment to change is crucial to the process.
It is important to keep in mind that no obstacle can divert you from your goal, not even the judgment from others or from yourself. When you are aligned with what you really want to achieve, you are closer to being free than anyone else.
4. Prioritize yourself.
When we procrastinate, we often set aside our interests and tasks to help people around us. we must learn to say no and to give ourselves the special attention we were giving to others.
